“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Mars500...expensive and dumb

I'm all for sending people to kill any life-forms on Mars and then colonizing it with rude, entitled Americans but, this testing seems a bit extreme....

Starting in 2010, an international crew of six will simulate a 520-day round-trip to Mars, including a 30-day stay on the martian surface. In reality, they will live and work in a sealed facility in Moscow, Russia, to investigate the psychological and medical aspects of a long-duration space mission.

Can you imagine spending a year and a half cooped up in an tiny room in Moscow? The austere, minimalist decor indicative of any collectivist State would be intolerable enough but, dining daily on black bread, cabbage, and Stoli Vodka would make me want to kill somebody.

If only there was a space station of some sort already in orbit on which we could simulate extended, deep space voyages.

I wonder how they're going to simulate the weightlessness aspect of space travel? Or did they not think that an important issue? Or think of ot at all?
