“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas

Palin saw it coming 6 years ago....who's being laughed at now, media?

In 2008, then vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was mocked and ridiculed by the media and democrats for predicting this regarding Obama's weakness with respect to Russia.....

"After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next."

She saw it six years ago. Palin understood what US presidential weakness could invite around the world. It's far too late for Obama to do anything now but point fingers at Putin, pretend there's a "red line" he shouldn't cross, and whine to the UN to write a strongly worded letter.

It is the media who should be mocked for installing into the white house, a two-bit, street hustling community agitator with not a single significant accomplishment other than being born with politically favored skin color. If the Ukrainians want to blame somebody for being so easily under the Russian thumb once again, they can blame the pernicious American media.

Sure, if Putin wanted to invade the Ukraine, no American President could have stopped him, but the international relations dynamic between Putin and a strong American President would have at least given him pause.

The infuriating paternalism of nanny-government

Good grief, how patronizing. Michelle O thinks that without her involvement women around the country are "confused, bewildered, and defeated" when trying to buy groceries for their families because they're too air-headed and frazzled from soccer practice and carpool line to understand the nutrition labels.

I've never once seen a women looking confused in the grocery store. I have seen thousands of husbands, including me, who look confused and bewildered trying to find the excruciatingly specific items on the list their wives gave them. It may as well have been written in Japanese. Try finding Panko breadcrumbs or Sweet Hungarian paprika, or slivered, unsalted, plain almonds......I'll give you a hint on the almonds, in some stores look in the baking section, in others look where the snacks are.

Bottom line, American women should be insulted that Michelle thinks they are too dumb to read a simple nutrition label and not figure out for themselves if they want it or not. Neither the government or the first lady should be assuming the role of condescending parent in the lives of the subjects over whom they pretend to rule.

Global warming cultists shift into the absurd

I've heard it all now. Global warming idiots are trying to terrify people into accepting their preposterous ideology with the claim that warming temperatures will result in greater violent crime by the year 2099. Notably 22,000 new murders and 18,000 new rapes that wouldn't have otherwise happened if only we all rode bicycles to work, read books by candle-light, shivering in the cold darkness, and drank our own urine.

Heh heh heh.

Never mind that....

-Earth hasn't warmed a single iota in 15 years
-India and China account for huge amounts of CO2 output and show no signs of slowing down
-volcanoes account for 97% of all CO2 in the atmosphere
-plants need lots of CO2 to live and thrive when there's more
-or that water vapor is 30 times more potent in greenhouse activity than CO2

....the self-appointed collectivist authoritarians that pretend to rule you will say literally anything to scare you into accepting their control over every aspect of your lives....even that tiny fractions of degrees in global temperatures will result in you being raped or murdered.

People, when your leaders try to scare you into accepting their control over you, turn away from that group as fast as you can.

Two years since the passion of Saint Skittles

Apparently it's been two whole years since model citizen Saint Skittles attacked the wrong neighborhood watchman and tried to bash his brains out on the sidewalk. I still see "I am Trayvon" hoodies featuring this picture being worn around B'ham. and there were vigils held yesterday around town as well, where "Justice for Trayvon" was the theme.

I'd like to know where the "Stay in school, Trayvon" theme was, or the "Quit dealing drugs, Trayvon" theme was, or the "Stop pretending to be a murdering gangsta' on Facebook, Trayvon" theme was.

Everybody. and by everybody I mean liberals, thinks the Saint Skittles killing was about racial profiling, but when irresponsibility, thug mentality, and bad parenting collide with armed citizens protecting their homes, bad things are bound to happen.

The US hopefully out of Afghanistan entirely by the end of 2014

Apparently the chilly relationship between President Obama and Afghan President Karzai have deteriorated still further after a terse phone call between the two. Hamid Karzai told Obama he would not sign a pact that would allow US troops to remain in Afghanistan beyond the end of this year, instead preferring to leave that option open to the next US President.

Obama got his feathers ruffled and basically threatened to take his toys and go home. He immediately had the Pentagon draw up plans for total withdrawal by the end of 2014.

GOOD!

That dirty, backward country isn't worth anything to the US strategically. We aren't even killing enough would-be terrorists to make the cost worth while. And building schools, hospitals, and water-treatment plants isn't what our military is for in the first place. We destroy those things, not build them. If Karzai wants to hire Black Water or Halliburton to rebuild his country, let him pay for it with opium money. The American taxpayer is through with this lost-cause of a country.

Our strategy ought to be to go away and let the Taliban and Al-Qaida reform when they think the coast is clear, then hit them hard with drone strikes in their desert training camps, like a year from now.

We've wasted enough blood and treasure already, and for no gain whatsoever.

My conflicting views of a downsized military

So, Sec. Def. Chuck Hagel says the US military needs draw down to force levels similar to that of WWII....or around 450,000 troops. Basically the US will still be able to defeat any adversary on Earth, but would not be able to spend protracted time occupying other countries the way we have in Iraq and Afghanistan. There's just no money in the budget for it.

As ex-military, I used to be a war hawk on this stuff, but as a libertarian I think we need to let other countries solve their own problems or suffer with them, whichever, unless the danger there poses a clear and present danger to the US. Neither Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Bosnia, etc. represented immediate threats and we can't afford the blood or treasure to police their countries for political or even humanitarian reasons, or to put it cynically, to create a reason to prop up American defense contractors.

I realize China and Russia are building up their war machines, but are we still the sole check on communist expansion, if that's what they have in mind, in the modern world? Are we prepared to go to war with China over Taiwan or Russia over the Ukraine? Have we ever been? That's likely world war you're talking about....and I don't think the Russians or Chinese want that any more than we do. They know we'll eventually defeat ourselves economically and they'll have won without firing a shot.

I do question why Hagel is cutting pay and benefits for the troops, but I saw no mention of downsizing plans for Pentagon staffing. That's probably because most of the troops vote R while the ass-kissers in the Pentagon have learned which side their bread is buttered on and dutifully vote D as long as Obama is in charge. I'm sure the bureaucracy at the Pentagon will end up like the education bureaucracy, bloated and top heavy with expensive administration and very little usefulness on the battlefield.

Powerless Obama acts tough on Ukraine

President Obama laughably warned the Ukranian government not to use unnecessary force against its own people with this statement, eerily similar to his warning to Bashir al-assad of Syria, which was immediately followed by al-assad using Sarin gas on his people:

"[W]e’ll be monitoring very closely the situation, recognizing that with our European partners and the international community there will be consequences if people step over the line."

The Ukraine shares a huge border with Russia and the entire south-eastern half of the country is very pro-Russian and are mostly ethnic Russians. What's Obama, or any EU nation for that matter, going to do? The same thing we did in Syria? Look the other way and pretend the red-line hadn't been crossed? Send in drones to a nation that borders Russia? Send in peace-keeping troops to fight with Russian troops? How about sanctions? Russia won't let that have any effect on the Ukraine.

Obama is posturing for the media and little else. As far as the Ukraine unrest is concerned, the US is a powerless observer and that's exactly what we should be, Obama's ridiculous saber-rattling notwithstanding.

No more clowns left to send

Apparently the clown population is dwindling dramatically around the country.....and not soon enough for me. Is there anybody still simple-minded enough to be entertained by grown-ups in ridiculous make-up pretending to hit and trip each other?

Clowns were a useful form of entertainment back in the 20's maybe when nobody had a TV and the only show was when barn-stormers, the circus, or a band of gypsies came to town. But how are clowns supposed to compete with Grand Theft Auto-5, Twitter, and 600 TV channels? Plus, how much can a clown possibly make a year?

I think the idea of a circus itself is antiquated. Who besides those who make money off Ringling Brothers approves of wild animals being shipped around on train cars, forced to perform for thoughtless human amusement, grown people and midgets acting silly on unicycles? All that's left is the high-wire and trapeze acts and we've basically got the summer Olympics for that nonsense.

No, the time for circuses has run it's course. If I go, it's only for the possibility of witnessing firsthand a lion mauling it's trainer, a rogue elephant trampling some families in the front row, or getting intentionally sick from cotton candy.

UAW receives well-deserved ass-kicking in Chattanooga

The UAW suffered a devastating defeat in Chattanooga when the workers at the Volkswagon plant voted NOT to unionize, citing Detroit and union boss thuggery as reasons.

Unions may have played a necessary role in worker safety and fairness a century ago, but all that has been taken care of in the American workplace. Now unions serve as little more than extortion clubs by which union bosses get filthy rich from outrageous mandatory union dues and force companies to downsize or elect not to expand by making them pay far more for labor than it's worth.

Good for Tennesseans for rejecting the scourge of collective bargaining and preventing what happened in Detroit from coming to the South. Let's hope this starts a trend around the country and we rid ourselves of malignant labor unions once and for all.

Gay marriage test in of all places, Alabama

Who thought Alabama would be next in line to address gay marriage? Bored housewives can't even legally buy vibrators in this state......we aren't evolved enough to wrangle with the tough questions like gay marriage.

Apparently the surviving spouse of a gay man killed in a traffic accident in Montgomery is suing the state to overturn our ban on the recognition of gay marriage on the "equal protection" grounds of the Constitution. They were married in Mass. and he's named sole beneficiary in the will.....as a spouse, but Al. doesn't recognize gay marriage so he can't claim the estate.

I'm sorry but this state is backwards nine ways from Sunday.
-We always self-righteously vote down gaming, but we spend $200Million each year in neighboring states' lotteries and casinos and B'ham is the illegal sports gambling capital of the world....you can't swing a dead cat in B'ham and not hit a doctor, lawyer, or bookie, but the sky will evidently fall if we have an education lottery.

-We stand on our conservative soapbox and demand that government get out of our wallets, businesses, and schools, but maintain an idiotic sex-toy law that puts government in the middle of our bedrooms.

-And we make a show of standing on preserving the Constitution when it comes to elections while ignoring the inconvenient part of the 14th amendment that guarantees all, ALL citizens be treated equally under the law.

I don't care if same sex couples want to marry. How can that possibly affect me? I don't have to like something in order to recognize it as constitutional. That's the whole point of our Constitution as it defines our supposedly civilized society.

This guy should be able to claim what was left to him the same as anybody else.

While Americans suffer, the Obama's live like kings

Some boy scouts some where will be camping under the stars for a while since Michelle Obama evidently commandeered their tent to make this dress to host the French president at a state dinner.

This one dress cost taxpayers $12,000 and made the media swoon. On the other hand, when Ann Romney gave an interview wearing a $900 blouse, the media went apoplectic with outrage at what out-of-touch elitist the Romney's were for such extravagance when the American people are suffering.

Michelle's dress alone cost more than the average annual income of all households around the world, which is about $9,800, and is more than the average household income for 87 countries. That she and BHO are dining in conspicuous luxury with a wealth-hating socialist, yet publicly demonizing regular people who do the same as evil, greedy capitalists is the height of hypocrisy. And still the running-dog ass-kissers in the American media worship the very ground they walk on.

This country is done I'm afraid.

My cynical view of Valentine's Day

Well, everybody enjoy Valentine's Day. But don't be fooled, it's another day of observance concocted by the greeting card companies to force you to buy their overpriced tripe. And if you're a man, don't you dare forget to observe it.

It's not like you didn't prove your boundless love and devotion to your girl two months ago at Christmas. Now you have to do it all over again, but bigger and better than you did at Christmas. If you don't give her what she needs to make all the other women in the secretary pool jealous, you're a bad boyfriend/husband and you'll be punished for it with silence and guilt for days.

So break out those maxed-out credit cards and do your duty once again.

Patreus kisses Hillary's ass

Just when I thought Colin Powell and Wesley Clarke had plumbed the most embarrassing depths of political obsequiousness, along comes David Patreus. He was obviously positioning himself for a plumb assignment in a Clinton presidential administration when he squeaked about Shrillary, "She'd made a tremendous President."

Gag me!

Kissing the ass of the person who humiliated you on the national stage by calling you a liar in a hearing regarding your then military success in Iraq, is the epitome of boot-licking servility and unbecoming of leadership.

Or perhaps Patreus thinks that since he cheated on his wife, he'd be a great fit in the Hillary Clinton administration because clearly she doesn't care.

Do stuffed animals make women want to have sex?

OK, Valentine's Day is upon us and in every TV commercial break we must endure Vermont Teddy Bear and Pajamagram commercials. I'd like to take an informal poll on this:

1 - would a 4 foot stuffed bear make you more or less likely to want to have sex with your partner, as the commercial assures us men it will? (Vermont women need not answer because for you, apparently the answer is yes)
And 2 - how insulted are you as a woman at the suggestion that being treated like an addled adolescent by your man is something you crave?

I would just say this, if you're a man and your girlfriend's level of maturity would make a 4-foot stuffed animal a valid romantic gift, perhaps you should check her ID again because you might be dating a tenth grader.

Live and let die in Atlanta

Is it true that fights have broken out over groceries as everybody in Atlanta panics?

If true, and it wouldn't surprise me, is this all the stress that is necessary for civilized society to descend into Lord of the Flies? A little ice and a couple of days without power and it becomes every-man-for-himself.....live and let die. Pathetic!

Once again, I'm convinced this is why aliens keep us isolated from the rest of the galactic community. The collective barbarism of Earth-humanoids is only just beneath the surface and evidently it doesn't take much to come out. And they don't want us to contaminate more advanced civilizations with our primitive savagery.

A gentle word of advice for all the hysterical people in the South who've prepared for one day of snow with a massive shopping spree that would supply them for weeks.......

NBC politicizes Olympics

Johnny Weir, former US Olympic skater and Sochi announcer for NBC, gets the gold medal for dishonesty for claiming that the games aren't about politics, while going full-transvestite in the broadcast booth.

Making a mockery of the Olympics by dressing up as an androgynous clown, with make-up, blouse, jewelry, lipstick, and at one point a tiara, to make a political point devalues the games, the athletes, and your seriousness as a commentator.

Still, as a cross-dresser Johnny is more feminine than his NBC colleague Rachel Maddow. Heh heh.

With bundlers as diplomats, Obama insults our allies

Every administration rewards it's campaign friends with plumb appointments in government so that person can direct public funds to his friends and colleagues in the private sector, or simply suck at the public teat himself. Usually the administration attempts to maintain the facade of competence in placing friends of the President in government positions. All except for Obama it would seem.

He has rewarded campaign bundlers with plumb ambassadorships 23 times, many of whom are utterly and completely ignorant about the countries to whom they'll be head diplomat on behalf of the US.

Here are the most recent and most embarrassing three:

-Noah Bryson Mamet bought the ambassadorship to Argentina by bundling $500,000 for Obama.
-George J. Tsunis purchased his ambassadorship to Norway $1.3 million in bundled cash.
-and Colleen Bradley Bell raised $800,000 and will represent the US to Hungary.

What do each of these corrupt, rank amateurs have in common? None have been to the respective country to which they'll be ambassador and upon Senate questioning, reveal an appalling lack of knowledge of any depth of these countries.

Obama always claims that diplomacy and international relations is important to him and his administration, but how can Argentina, the premier up-and-coming economic power in South America, take the US seriously when we send a complete moron as our chief contact with them? It shows that Obama places little or no value on international relations and that our relationship with these nations is an afterthought or a party favor.

Can a nation reject a diplomat on the grounds that his appointment is an insulting joke? I hope Argentina, Norway, and Hungary say thanks but no thanks, we'll deal with other nations and skip the US.

Wellesley College students traumatized by art....heh heh

Heh heh, delicate lesbians at girls-only Wellesley College are terrorized by an art exhibit of a nearly naked, sleep-walking man. One histrionic sophomore whined that the statue could be a "trigger" for girls who've been raped and it might cause undue stress for all the girls on campus.

Heh, it might be a rape trigger if he had a knife and an erection, but his eyes are closed....it's just art sweetie, relax....not all men are rapists.

It's supposed to be provocative, and in this case, funny.

How are these cloistered feminists supposed to function in the real world where men exist if when presented with male-containing art, they wilt like hot-house orchids?

Jay Carney is an embarrassing shill

I've always heard that white house spokes-gnome Jay Carney was a pretty smart guy, he's highly educated and speaks fluent Russian. That may be true, but this statement about Obamacare and jobs shows that he is either stunningly ignorant about the economy and what people want, or he's a deplorable liar. Either way it's not good for Jay.

Here's his statement about the CBO report that Obamacare will cost 2.5 Million Americans full-time jobs, as employers reduce hourly workers to less than 30 hours per week to avoid the onerous Obamacare mandates and taxes.......

"Over the longer run, CBO finds that because of this law, individuals will be empowered to make choices about their own lives and livelihoods, like retiring on time rather than working into their elderly years or choosing to spend more time with their families. At the beginning of this year, we noted that as part of this new day in health care, Americans would no longer be trapped in a job just to provide coverage for their families, and would have the opportunity to pursue their dreams."

He thinks that people working equals being "trapped in a job", unable to pursue their dreams? Then I guess I'm a stooge for keeping my job when I could just quit, go on the government dole like all the other lazy derelicts who vote democrat, and pursue my dream of being a high-class jewel and art thief.

People work at jobs in order to finance their dreams, as it should be, and government shouldn't encourage them to not work or work less and rely on safety nets and program supplements.

The biggest loser needs to eat a sandwich

Biggest Loser crowned a new champion last night, Rachel Fredrickson who lost 155lbs or 60% of her body weight. I know guys aren't supposed to comment on the bodies of women, but yikes, she's too thin.

Click on the picture and get a look at how stretched the skin around her mouth is around her jawbone. She looks like Karen Carpenter toward the end. Even the trainers on the show were shocked.

Biggest Loser is supposed to be a positive uplifting show about health and fitness, not a depressing cautionary tale about anorexia, negative body image, and obsessive weight loss. Weight loss to this extreme is not achievable for most people, nor should it be. She doesn't look good to me.

Romney validates once and for all why I despised myself for voting for him

Lest any of you big-government compassionate conservatives get excited about the rumor that the GOP money-guys want Romney to get back into presidential politics, here's what Mittens had to say about the totally debunked global warming hoax:

“It is a Democrat issue but I think it’s an issue for both parties,” he said. “If you think global warming is just in America, it’s not just America. There needs to be a global understanding and a real global effort.”

And "STRIKE 3!!!", for Romney.

If this doesn't cement his retirement, what would to the GOP?

Did the Cheerios SuperBowl commercial make you uncomfortable?

Regular reader Dave began a discussion on race in America, particularly the idea of mixed-race families.

Did everybody see the mixed-race family Cheerios SuperBowl commercial? Why are we still uncomfortable with blacks marrying and having kids with whites?

Here's my take, and it applies only to black and white couples because there would be no controversy if Cheerios had featured white/Chinese, white/Mexican, black/Inuit, etc. I did make a note of it, but only because you rarely ever see mixed-race images in TV ads(at least not blacks and whites), so it was noteworthy on that level. That said, there are mixed-race couples with kids everywhere. It's not uncommon, even in the South. Still thought, I'm not sure how to include that particular segment of the population in advertising without people thinking that a larger political statement is being made, though I'm not sure what the statement might have been.

Now that Cheerios was the first to do it and everybody noted it, we'll probably see more of it in commercials and a year or two from now, nobody will even notice. And that'll be a good thing. I don't have a problem with mixed race families of any pairing, even black and white.

I think people reacted to it with suspicion because a lot of people, secretly, and they'll never admit it, don't think the black and white races should be blended. Some of us are still suspicious of, and hostile toward, the inevitable dilution of the white race into something darker. Thankfully in a generation or two those people will have died off. In the mean time, they should continue to hide their prejudices because the ethnicity of the average American is trending toward everybody being multiracial of some combination or another.

I think the fact that people recoiled from the image of black man and a white woman being happily married and having kids is reflective of our nation's continued, unstated and hidden reluctance to accept mixed-race families as normal and OK. It's as if they're doing something they shouldn't. I thought we were past that.

Thinking that black/white mixed-race families, though relatively rare, are somehow deviant in a bad way, validates that tweet by the MSNBC person who suggested that republicans would hate the commercial and are therefore racists. And that's not to single out conservatives necessarily as the ones who're uncomfortable with seeing it, no doubt there are an equal number of self-described "progressives" who're similarly displeased with the idea, though they'll take that secret to their graves.

According to my research, I am 25% Chinese, 12.5% German, 12.5% Cuban, and 50% English with some Swiss thrown in there somewhere. (That and the German is probably where I get my insistence on punctuality and precision that infuriates my wife.) I'm as indicative of the "mutt" nature of the American population trend as anybody I can name and my labeling mixed-race families as deviant and being suspicious of hidden messages when I see it in the media, would amount to an absurd denial of my own ethnic background as well as an admission of my own prejudices of people exactly like me.

Coke gets undeserved backlash from paranoid, xenophobic conservatives

Was anybody really that upset about the Coke commercial featuring "America the Beautiful" last night?

How dare Coke acknowledge that the US, above all others, is a melting-pot nation that welcomes cultures different from our own? I thought it was a pretty cool way of stating that we're a welcoming nation, not a propaganda piece for immigration reform as some people were whining about.

Shockingly, they included the words, "...God shed his grace on thee." in English. If anything upsets sensitive, atheist Americans, it's the inclusion of God anywhere in the public forum. I didn't hear them complaining about that, why are conservatives complaining about THAT song, which celebrates the greatness of America, being sung in the many different languages of our immigrants?

If you have a problem with this, then you ARE the problem.
Heh heh, the last great run by a Bronco was in 1994....

Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow

Apparently we're going to have six more weeks of winter, so says an obese woodland creature, no doubt driven insane like all undomesticated captive animals, by depression from being kept in a zoo for the idle amusement of thoughtless, self-absorbed humans.

And on that cheery note, happy Monday!
